Note of the Day (39) The Late Pope Jean Paul II has been beatified on May 1st 2011, in a context of an emotional ceremony at Saint Pierre of Roma Square, attended by more than one million of believers coming from all parts of the world. HRH Samdech Krom Preah Norodom Ranariddh remembers that in the 90s, during his struggle for the independence, peace and freedom of his country, Cambodia, he was greeted in Vatican by Pope Jean Paul II. The Prince remembers well of the warms and the simplicity with which the Pope had provided to him that emanated from His persona, an extraordinary humanism and an unbelievable aura. The Cambodian Prince went out with a real peace of mind. Among all the State Men’s in the world with whom he met, it is without any doubt that the Pope Jean Paul II was the one that the Prince was most impressed. Samdech Ranariddh perfectly remembers the words that, during the audience, His Holiness the Pope, had pronounced: “I’m coming from a communist State, Poland (at that time, NDLR), and I know how they (the communists) are…every morning I’m praying for your people (the Cambodians, NDLR) who suffer so much under Pol Pot and even now…”. Even if the Prince is a Buddhist, he must associate himself with the homage rendered by the whole world to Her Holiness Pope Jean Paul II: a true Saint, proclaimed as a “blessed”. Sam Nora

Billet du Jour (39) Le défunt Pape Jean Paul II a été béatifié le 1er mai 2011, dans le cadre d’une émouvante cérémonie en la Place St. Pierre de Rome, devant plus d’un million de fidèles venus du monde entier. Samdech Krom Préah Norodom Ranariddh se souvient que dans les années 90, pendant qu’il luttait pour l’indépendance, la paix et la liberté de son pays, le Cambodge, il fut reçu au Vatican par le Saint Père, le Pape Jean Paul II. Le Prince se rappelle très bien de la chaleur et de la simplicité de la réception que le Pape lui a réservée. Emanait de Sa personne un extraordinaire humanisme et un incroyable aura. Le Prince du Cambodge en sortait l’âme en paix. De tous les grands hommes d’Etat du monde que le Prince Ranariddh a rencontrés, c’est sûrement le Pape Jean Paul II qui l’a le plus impressionné. Samdech Ranariddh se souvient parfaitement des paroles que, durant l’audience, Sa Sainteté a prononcées : « Je viens d’un pays communiste, la Pologne (de cette époque, NDLR) et je sais comment ils (les communistes) sont…Tous les matins je prie pour votre peuple (celui du Cambodge, NDLR) qui a tant souffert sous Pol Pot et maintenant encore… ». Même en tant que bouddhiste, le Prince Ranariddh ne puis que s’associer à l’hommage que le monde entier a rendu à Sa Sainteté le Pape Jean Paul II : un authentique Saint Homme, proclamé le « Bienheureux ».
